AccessAble and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust launch Accessibility Guide

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust today launches an Accessibility Guide in partnership with AccessAble; the UK’s leading provider of detailed disabled access information.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust has worked with AccessAble to create Detailed Access Guides to facilities, wards, and departments at their sites across Bristol, including Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital.

The Guides are 100 per cent facts, figures and photographs to help patients, visitors and staff plan their journeys to and around the hospital site, covering everything from parking facilities and hearing loops, to walking distances and accessible toilets.

We know everyone’s accessibility needs are different, which is why having detailed, accurate information is so important. It’s why all of the details you’ll find in the Guide have been checked in person, on site, by trained surveyors.

AccessAble has also provided internal guidance documents which look at how the Trust’s estate could improve accessibility in the future.

Anna Nelson, Chief Executive of AccessAble, said:

“We are delighted to work in partnership with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust to create and publish Detailed Access Guides for the Trust’s hospitals. I’d like to sincerely thank the Trust and the Bristol and Weston Hospital Charity for funding this work and recognising that detailed, accurate accessibility information is crucial to improving patient experience.”

Professor Deirdre Fowler, Chief Nurse & Midwife and Executive lead for health inequalities at UHBW said:

"We serve a diverse community and appreciate that everyone's accessibility needs are unique. This is why providing clear, detailed and accurate information about our hospital locations to the public is so important.

"We are very proud of our partnership with AccessAble and the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity in helping us to become a more inclusive organisation. We know we need to do more and are committed to doing so to create the best conditions to support everyone."

Paul Kearney, Chief Executive of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity said:

“We’re delighted to fund these new guides to help everyone have equitable access to our hospital sites. Thanks to our kind and generous supporters, we’re able to go above and beyond for your hospitals, funding projects like this that ensure everyone has the best possible experience for their individual needs.”
