Route to (the Visitor Reception)

  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Visitor Reception

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 85cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the area.
  • Some of the flooring is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 105cm.
  • There is a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.

Route to (Tour Start - Rodney Street)

  • Exit the Visitor Reception entrance, turn left onto Pilgrim Street and proceed along the footpath to the junction of Mount Steet.
    Turn left and proceed along Mount Street towards the junction of Rodney Street.
    Turn left and proceed along Rodney Street to the front entrance of The Hardmans' House.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, concrete, cobbles and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The route above is unsuitable for wheelchair users as the front entrance is stepped.
    Wheelchair users will access the tour by passing through the Visitor Reception, going through the garden at the rear of the property and using the tour exit.

Entrance (Main Tour Start - Rodney Street)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building in Rodney Street.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are 4 steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The handrail covers all steps.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • This entrance has a bell.
  • Features not positioned at a suitable height for a wheelchair user include: the bell.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 78cm.
  • There are 3 steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with no handrails.

Entrance (Accessible Tour Start / Tour Exit)

  • The entrance surveyed is located beyond the Visitor Reception and through the garden at the rear of the building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the left going down.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 83cm.

Tour

  • The tour is guided.
  • The tour takes approximately 1 hour.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • There are doorways or openings used on the tour which are under 75cm wide.
  • The majority of walkway widths are under 120cm.
  • The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via a video on tablet or mobile phone.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • The tour has a hearing assistance system which is not signed.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are a mixture of chairs with and without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.

Exit (Tour)

  • The exit is located at the rear of the property.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the exit.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 83cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 86cm.
  • This is also the accessible entrance.
    The exit passes through the Visitor Reception.
